INSPIRE Conformity

In Europe a major recent development has been the entering in force of the INSPIRE Directive in May 2007, establishing an infrastructure for spatial information in Europe to support Community environmental policies, and policies or activities which may have an impact on the environment. This European Union (EU) spatial data infrastructure will enable the sharing of environmental spatial information among public sector organisations and better facilitate public access to spatial information across Europe.

According to the INSPIRE Regulation on Network Services, a first release of an INSPIRE Geoportal is published from the Laboratory of Geophysical - Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-environment (IMS/FORTH, Greece). The IMS/FORTH - INSPIRE Geoportal currently provides the means to search and view spatial data services of this project (PROSODOL), within the framework of the Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community (INSPIRE) Directive.

IMS/FORTH - INSPIRE Geoportal currently accesses only spatial data of the PROSODOL project and therefore only the metadata for these spatial data sets and services may be found and viewed. INSPIRE services of the Geoportal will increase as more become available over time.
